Weekend Fun: 16 Things You Didn't Know About Sleep

Just like the post about 15 things you didn't know about the solar system, here's 16 things you didn't know about sleep.

Sleep is a vital process in the human body. It is a state of unconsciousness that one can be aroused from (this differentiates it from being in a coma). It's best to describe it as when the body shuts down to do internal maintenance work and refresh. Sleep is a complicated physiological process that even up to know, science still has not yet fully grasped.

Sleep is a heightened anabolic state. An anabolic process is the "building up" of organs and tissues. Sleep accentuates the growth and rejuvenation of the human body particularly the immune, nervous, skeletal and muscular systems.
